Todd McFarlane is a legendary comic book creator, recently launching his own television division. His first project “Grave Danger” was released on Netflix in November 2018 and will be followed up by another series of twenty-two episodes set to release this year.
Todd McFarlane, famous for his work on the comics franchise Spawn and creator of Image Comics, is launching a television division. The company will be producing films like Devil’s Gate and Alien vs Predator.
Todd McFarlane is a comic book artist and creator of “Spawn.” He has announced the launch of his own film and television division, called McFarlane Films Television Division.
Todd McFarlane, the creator, director, and producer of Spawn, is starting a television development and production division of his production firm, McFarlane Films. McFarlane Films has a first-look television contract with wiip (Mare of Easttown), which was announced on Tuesday, and McFarlane and his President of Television, Sean Canino, will find and develop fresh developing talent, creator-owned concepts, independent brands, storylines, and characters. Reno 911! co-creator Thomas Lennon, comic book author Sean Lewis, Bojack Horseman producer ShadowMachine, and others are among McFarlane Film’s inaugural television production slate. McFarlane films has previously announced a partnership with Wiip to produce a live-action Sam & Twitch television series.
“Having been in development with Jason Blum at Blumhouse, as well as tying Jamie Foxx to a prospective SPAWN movie series,” Todd McFarlane, McFarlane Films CEO, said in a statement. “Films, television, and video games are all places where I want to devote a significant amount of my creative energy on a regular basis.”
He went on to say, “I’ve spent decades succeeding in other disciplines, going up against some of the greatest names in the industry (Marvel, DC Comics, Hasbro, and Mattel toys), and have been able to bring to market many successful products and concepts that bigger firms couldn’t. I now want to pursue the same creative and commercial methods full-time in Hollywood. I take satisfaction in uncovering great artists and inspirational ideas… then bringing them to the public as the CEO of my enterprises. Two of our most recent projects (one live-action, the other stop-motion animation) feature brilliant individuals who will assist in getting these innovative ideas into the airwaves. We’ve started this trip alongside Thomas Lennon, Anders Weidemann, Sean Lewis, our collaborators at wiip, and ShadowMachine, to name a few.”
McFarland and Thumbs, two new premium programs in production by McFarlane Films’ television subsidiary, were also unveiled. McFarland is a stop-motion animated event series made by Lennon in collaboration with ShadowMachine and wiip, characterized as “Night at the Museum meets Toy Story in Twin Peaks” and starring original McFarlane Toys. Along with Canino and ShadowMachine, McFarlane and Lennon will executive produce the project.
“It’s a safe bet that when Todd McFarlane and Tom Lennon join together, fantastic things will happen…and they’ll almost certainly happen in stop-motion animation. We’re ecstatic to be a part of the festivities!, “Alex Bulkley of ShadowMachine said.
Thumbs is a live-action drama series based on Lewis’ best-selling graphic book. McFarlane Films collaborates on the project with Wiip and Epicenter (1BR, Judas and the Black Messiah), with Anders Weidemann adapting it. The series will follow Charlie “Thumbs” James, a 17-year-old gamer and social outcast who joins an esports event in the hopes of winning a scholarship to Adrien Camus’ gamer school and getting out of his ghetto. Thumbs, on the other hand, soon finds himself waging real-life conflicts in a clandestine war between Camus’ youthful army and a neo-fascist anti-tech movement on the verge of taking over the United States of America. Through Epicenter, McFarlane and Canino will executive produce alongside Allard Cantor and Jarrod Murray, with Lewis serving as a producer.
“We were searching for a method to bring Sean Lewis’ important graphic book to life,” Cantor and Murray stated, “and we believed entrusting comics superstar Todd McFarlane to lead the charge would be a wonderful start.” “We couldn’t have asked for finer studio partners than our wiip colleagues, who are among the city’s sharpest and most supportive creative minds. As a result, we enlisted the help of Anders Weidemann, a seasoned premium series creator, to create a serialized story that would fascinate people worldwide.”
