The Steelers were blown out by the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, with QB Ben Roethlisberger and LB Ryan Shazier both being injured in the process.
The steelers defensive line is one of the most important components in any football game. They are responsible for stopping the opposing team’s offense and getting to the quarterback.

On Friday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers were defeated 34-9 by the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Pittsburgh completed their preseason campaign for 2021 with a 3-1 record, while the Panthers won for the first game this summer (1-2).
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin began his post-game news conference by saying, “I’m just very disappointed with our performance today.” “I was ecstatic for the players to get this chance, particularly because Carolina was playing a lot of their regulars. I felt it would be a wonderful opportunity for them to show off their varsity abilities, but we didn’t.”
Dwayne Haskins, the Steelers’ starting quarterback, went 9 of 16 for 108 yards, one score, and one interception. However, when fourth-string quarterback Josh Dobbs was injured, he reentered the game and produced a lot of points in the fourth quarter. Haskins had a 7.0 quarterback rating when he was removed.
Haskins’ passer rating has risen to a staggering 7.0 from a 2.8 rating in the first half after completing one more throw for five yards.

After the game, Tomlin stated of Haskins, “I didn’t believe it was enough varsity effort from him.” “It wasn’t the kind of performance he or us had hoped for, but that’s life.”
QB Both Josh Dobbs and Marcus Allen, ILB, have been injured.
Tomlin mentioned two specific injuries that occurred throughout the game.
He added, “Marcus Allen has a hamstring; I don’t know the degree of it.” “Joshua Dobbs may have suffered a turf toe, which is being examined. I don’t know how serious it is (either).”
Dobbs’ injury may have a big effect since it makes him less tradeable, if he has any value at all.
If the Steelers want to retain Haskins on the active roster, it would make sense for general manager Kevin Colbert to attempt to trade Dobbs for a seventh-round selection rather than risk losing him for nothing. Keep in mind that Colbert dealt Dobbs to Jacksonville in September 2019 for a fifth-round selection, only to reclaim him a year later when the Jaguars released him.
Meanwhile, Tomlin said that a few players were unable to make the trip to Charlotte.
“We left a number of Steelers at home to allow them to get medical care. He cautioned, “Anthony McFarland and players like Zach Banner did not make the trip,” alluding to the second-year running back and his expected starting right tackle.
When asked why Christian Kuntz handled all of the long-snapping responsibilities despite seeming to be in a 50/50 fight with incumbent Kameron Canaday, Tomlin replied that Canaday was “sick pre-game,” therefore he was held out.
In terms of the battle for the role of punter/holder in Pittsburgh, Tomlin said he liked what he saw from Jordan Berry and rookie seventh-round selection Pressley Harvin III, both of whom he claimed “have both been outstanding.”
Berry punted four times for an average of 43.8 yards per kick, with one long of 55 yards. Harvin also punted four times, averaging 42.3 yards per kick and going 48 yards long.
It’s also worth mentioning that when Berry was the holder, Boswell kicked a 52-yard field goal:
Jordan Berry is the holder on a 52-yard field goal by Chris Boswell. Over Canaday, Christian Kuntz was the long snapper.
Not only do we have a punter fight, but we also have a long snapper battle. We are really fortunate.

While Harvin was holding for him, he missed an extra-point try.
The extra point was missed by Boswell, and the holder was Pressley Harvin.

Tuesday afternoon is the deadline for roster cuts.
After the game, Tomlin stated, “Now we begin the decision-making time,” alluding to the process of reducing the roster from 80 to 53 players, which must be completed by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Aug. 31.
On August 17, the Steelers made their first round of cuts, followed by another round on August 24.
