Tara Strong, the voice of Miss Minute from Disney’s animated series Star vs. The Forces of Evil, talks about voicing a character who is a fan favorite and getting to crossover with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Tara Strong talks about voicing Miss Minutes in the new Disney movie, Tangled. She also discusses fan theories and MCU crossovers.
The Season 1 finale of Marvel Studios’ Loki is almost here, putting an end (for the time being) to one of the most unexpected entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. Tom Hiddleston’s titular God of Mischief, as well as the viewer, have been exposed to a broad range of Marvel Comics ideas and characters, including Miss Minutes, the animated mascot of the Time Variance Authority. Miss Minutes was a character that fans were excited to follow even before she spoke a word of speech on Loki, and once they found that renowned voice actor Tara Strong brought the character to life, that devotion only increased.
Strong has a long history of portraying popular cartoon characters, including Timmy Turner in The Fairly OddParents, Bubbles in The Powerpuff Girls, and Raven, Harley Quinn, and Batgirl in the DC world. Strong has a one-of-a-kind chance with Miss Minutes to introduce a completely new character to the MCU while still keeping fans wondering.
I had the opportunity to speak with Strong about her work on the series just in time for Loki’s season finale. We spoke about the huge fan response to Miss Minutes, her reaction to fan speculations that her character is really in charge of the TVA, and which other MCU characters she’d want her character to cross paths with. Continue reading to see the interview (which can also be seen in the video above)!
: You’re no stranger to the superhero genre – I’m a big fan of Teen Titans GO! and your work on the show is fantastic. What was it like, from a creative standpoint, to create a fresh character in that world and really imprint her from the start with Loki?
Tara Strong (Tara Strong): It’s been a lot of fun. When I was auditioning, I had no idea what it was. I had no idea that was Loki. Miss Minutes was a name I didn’t recognize. When you have an audition for a show, you will usually be given a sketch, a character description, and sometimes a show bible to familiarize yourself with the setting. You may even get a whole script. None of those things were available to me. I got a very short description and just sides to audition with, which is a tiny part of the script. I recall contacting my agent and telling her, “Who is this person? Is it possible to obtain additional information? Is she conscious? Is she a computer program? Is there anything more we can get?” They were unable to do so. It wasn’t until I booked it that I realized what it was, and of course, I was ecstatic.
In my audition, I offered them three options: my own voice, another AI, and one with this accent that they really liked. Then, when I was on Zoom with Kate Herron, it became really collaborative, and it just kind of fell into the proper pocket for who she was. We experimented a lot, and we [improvised] a lot, and it was a lot of fun figuring out who this really distinct persona is.

You share a lot of fanart and fan tributes to Miss Minutes on your Twitter account. What’s it like to have such a positive reaction from fans and to see people connect with the character?
That is something I adore. Throughout the years, the fans have always pleased me. I like everyone’s skill and the fact that they share their work, whether it’s original artwork, music, literature, or cosplay. It’s really lovely to see supporters actually getting involved in the topics I care about.
It’s both unexpected and wonderful in terms of Miss Minutes and Loki. It felt as if I had been given a gift that I had no idea about. During the trailer, they seemed to fall in love with her and be fascinated by her. I’m thankful for the overwhelming good reaction I received online, since you never know. You’re correct – it’s a new character in an already well-known, popular series. So the fact that they immediately fell in love with her and demonstrated their feelings for her… I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the fans.
As a person, I manage my own Twitter account. I like interacting with people, so I’m glad they felt comfortable enough to share their work, and I try to retweet as much of it as I can. I try not to comment too much on spoiler theories since I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s interesting to see how various people see her and who she really is. I’ve simply been blown away by how quickly they’ve taken to her. Because things may take a long time. Take a peek at Teen Titans GO! for example. I understand why many were upset that it wasn’t Season Six at first. Season six, hopefully, will be released at some point. They didn’t like it at first, and it took some time for them to warm up to GO! and embrace it as a new version of the Teen Titans. But there was instant affection for the program and Miss Minutes, and I’m thankful for that.

Miss Minutes has undoubtedly sparked a plethora of fan ideas. One of my colleagues believes she is secretly in charge of the TVA. Do you have any favorites among the ones you’ve seen thus far? Not in terms of spoilers, but in terms of the level of inventiveness that fans have reached?
I have to admit, I think it’s hilarious that people believe she’s the mastermind behind it all. Because I’ve always like playing these adorable tiny girls that are really very strong. We may return to The Powerpuff Girls, these pre-schoolers who save the world before sleep. It encourages girls and their peers to recognize the power in females and female personalities, in my opinion. So the fact that they believe she is to blame has delighted me to no end. And who knows what may happen? I mean, I’m not sure. We can’t tell right now, but I think it’s been a lot of fun to see her as the brains behind everything.

Who would you have Miss Minutes cross over with if you could have her cross over with any other MCU character other than the ones we’ve seen in Loki?
Oh, my, that’s a fantastic question. I’m going to say something that some of your fans may not like, but I believe it’d be great to see her in a variety of roles. It’d be interesting if she became a source of information for Spider-Man or the Scarlet Witch at some point. Perhaps she simply swoops in and helps people, or perhaps she has her own goal, or perhaps she doesn’t. Her character seems like she could connect with virtually anybody and find a way in.
