Rob Gronkowski of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers returned to the field on Sunday after a hard hit, but he still required an X-ray.
In a news conference on Sunday, Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians remarked, “X-rays came back negative, so he’s OK.”
Due to the cringe-worthy hit from Los Angeles Rams linebacker Terrell Lewis in the Bucs’ 34-24 defeat, Arians revealed Gronkowski underwent X-rays for his ribs. According to Pro Football Talk, the coach did not offer any more information on how Gronkowski’s availability for practice and status for the Week 4 game in New England, where he previously played, would be affected.
When Lewis hammered Gronkowski in the third quarter, he grabbed a 6-yard pass. Gronkowski then went to the locker room to get checked, but he returned to the game later. At that time in the third quarter, the Rams were up 21-14.
After a strong start to the season, Gronkowski ended with four receptions for 55 yards and no touchdowns on seven targets. In the first two games, he caught 12 receptions for 129 yards and four touchdowns.
Despite his poor performance, Gronkowski has the second-best Pro Football Focus rating among tight ends (90.2), behind only Kansas City’s Travis Kelce (92.2).

Giovani Bernard’s Injured Knee Receives an Update from Arians
Returning to the beginning Giovani Bernard injured his knee late in the game while catching a touchdown pass.
“He seems to be in good health. We’ll have to wait and see. On the aircraft, he could swell,” Arians warned on Sunday. “The hardest part about these kinds of situations is that you’re on a plane for six hours, or five hours, or whatever. You’ll bloat up a little more than usual.”
Bernard had a total of nine receptions for 51 yards and a score.
Secondary Injuries Last a Long Time
Aside from Gronkowski, the Buccaneers have other injury worries after their defeat to the Rams. Bucs CB Jamel Dean hurt his knee in the first half, and Arians didn’t say anything about it, according to Pro Football Talk. Dean didn’t have any tackles before to the injury, although he came close to making an interception before fumbling it away.
With Dean out and cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting injured, speculation regarding free agent defensive back Richard Sherman has resurfaced. The Buccaneers have spoken with the former Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers standout.
Instead, Arians chose to focus on a few of recent or current practice squad players — Rashard Robinson and Pierre Desir — during the news conference.
“In the past few weeks, we brought in a couple players that have experience and are long, tall corners,” Airans said on Sunday. “They’re both excellent corners who can play a bit man-to-man. We’ll see what we can come up with.”
Arians Reacts to His Defensive Punishment
Following a late-game catch from quarterback Tom Brady, Bernard inadvertently knocked down Arians on the sideline. With Bernard crashing with Arians’ knee, Arians was knocked to the ground.
In answer to a reporter’s question about his health, Arians said, “Yeah, I’m tough.”
Aside from his coaching profession, Arians was a quarterback in college and at Virginia Tech, where he absorbed a lot of blows.
